If the saying "they don't make 'em like this anymore" sounds fine, it should be narrowed down for the L-07D to "they only made it once - and never will again".If the saying "they don't make 'em like this anymore" sounds fine, it should be narrowed down for the L-07D to "they only made it once - and never will again".And that is even more true of the 150kg R-6197 prototype which was entirely different and planned to be sold at 300,000¥ in october 1978. This not too pretty but certainly impressive item went away rather quickly and the actual L-07D was (re)developed throughout 1979.
In searching for ideal reproduction of music from records, Kenwood's team of engineers have stripped away the "mental blocks" of conventional analog turntable design, to reach the sources of reproduction problems. As the result, they have achieved what many in the audio industry have thought impossible: a near 100% ratio of conversion of recorded to reproduced music signals. In fact, they have literally redesigned the turntable in this model.
The Kenwood engineers designed the L-07D to absorb vibration over the entire audible frequency range, and used a highly rigid construction to prevent signal loss through vibrational movement. The direct-drive system of the L-07D incorporates a highly sophisticated quartz-lock, speed-phase double servo control and constant-current type motor to maintain high accuracy in motor speed.
Another unique feature incorporated in the L-07D is the structured platter. The massive die-cast aluminium platter is reinforced beneath by a 4mm thick, duralumin layer. But on top of the platter is a second layer of 5mm thick, vibration proof stainless steel. The two surfaces are interfaced by precision machining to prevent ringing, while the non-magnetic nature of the steel serves as a barrier to magnetism generated by a moving coil type cartridge.
